Biomass Summit

Join us 18 miles east of Beaver, Utah at the scenic Eagle Point Resort for a full day of presentations by leading experts in the biomass field. The Biomass Summit, hosted by Utah Biomass Resources Group (UBRG) will feature topics that include current biomass markets, harvesting equipment, ecological effects of restoration, and much more. A social hour and dinner will follow.

The drive from Beaver to Eagle Point could take up to one and one quarter hour due to the road construction. We will keep you informed on the status of construction and if the detour continues to be in place. Due to road construction, it is our suggestion attendees stay at Eagle Point on Monday and Tuesday evening. Condos are available:

  • Single rate of $75/person/night
  • Double rate of $65/person/night
  • Larger condos $125/night

“In woods” Equipment Demonstration

Ever wonder how they work in the woods? Southern Utah Biomass Equipment Demonstrations will be held 10 miles south of Beaver on State of Utah ground. Restoration and biomass harvesting equipment will be featured during the day. Surrounding states representatives who will join us “in the woods” and speak.

Join us for an evening BBQ and music in the park on Main Street of Beaver. UBRG’s mobile gasifier, dubbed the Dragon Wagon will provide power for Muddy Boots Band.
An open mic discussion of biomass will take place as well as demonstrations of charbots, wood-gas stoves, rocket stoves and more during the evening.
Make your reservation at the Paradise Inn for Wednesday and Thursday evening by calling 435-438-2455, and receive a discount when you mention you are attending the 2012 Southern Utah Biomass field day activities. Free breakfast is available along with an indoor pool and amenities.

Pinyon/Juniper Restoration Tour

Meet at exit 110 at the Beaver Valley Chevron for the tour. Retired Forest Service Range Specialist and Southern Utah Biomass board member, Dayle Flanigan will be leading the tour. The focus of the tour will be the ecological effects of woody biomass removal, mastication and burning. Sites which have been treated and restored using mastication, lop & scatter, thinning and removal as well as prescribed burn will be a part of the tour. During lunch, we will meet at the demonstration day facilities to discuss what we have seen. We will observe and discuss the overall effects to soils, vegetation community composition, water cycle, nutrient cycle, energy flow and the native wildlife species.
The field day activities conclude at 2 p.m. this day.
